A List for a wet weekend
The garden is currently off limits to any but the most light-footed beings. It only takes a few days of rain to quickly turn the three inches of top soil we have into a hazardous mud bath. Even if the mood takes me (which it never really does on these cold dreich days), I can’t go out to do much in the fields or in the garden as too much traffic will poach the ground and turn into a permanent mud bath.
So, it is a weekend inside for us.
In case your weekend is similar, here is what I am reading, listening to, reading and making:
Podcasts:
This is a great listen, a series about women changing the face of farming in the West of the US. I love stories and so many of these episodes are great ones about connecting land to community.
Also shout out to this episode of Farmerama all about our friends at Mungoswells Malt and Milling.
Music:
Loving this album by Bella White - can’t beat a bluegrass jam in the kitchen.
Please note, I will be streaming Taylor Swift’s new album as soon as it is out this weekend!
Reading:
I have only just started it, but so far, it is beautiful. I loved Little Fires Everywhere and Everything I Never Told You so I have high hopes. I will be reading at every opportunity this weekend.
Did you see the article in The Guardian about Scotland’s wild emptiness? Matt Cross has a great article in the Press and Journal about how damaging this type of rhetoric is for Scotland. If you don’t have a subscription, he also has a run down on his twitter.
Making:
This weekend, Kevin and our foster son are off to London, so I will be eating and cooking all the pork (our foster son eats Halal)!! No recipes, but the kids have asked for a weekend full of bacon and who am I to argue?
Thanks for reading Life in The Making!
