Immeasurable Losses

10Dec2009_4838

One year ago this week, a little boy was born early to loving parents. Twelve days later he died unexpectedly.  In the wake of his death, one of the most horrific tragedies I have witnessed unfolded around the two people in the world that loved him most. His life and loss left deep marks into those of us who surrounded his family.

His death was the first of many baby losses that have punctuated this year.  Its the one thing that parents fear most. Something that circulates in my head more often than it should in my current state. So today, I ask you, no beg you, to take a minute to do something to support other parents who find themselves bereaved. If you are resident in the UK:

- Please sign the SANDS petition to ensure parents of stillborn babies are able to see and hold their babies to say goodbye if they wish to.

- Please sign the petition by the Joseph Salmon Trust to ensure that the "tax on grief" VAT (sales tax) for headstones is abolished.

No matter where in the world you are, follow and support the group of walkers that are hiking across Britain (well, following Hadrian's Wall) to support the Joseph Salmon Trust.

Find a local baby loss or parental bereavement charity and do what you can to support their work.
