...And Then She Napped

I had been waiting for it to kick in..."it" being that frantic Quarter 4 busyness that always seems to hit mid-October. The shop had been quiet for a few weeks and the frenetic rhythm of harvesting and preserving had quieted down. While part of me was grateful for the opportunity to focus on other things (mostly reading, catching up on TV and napping), part of me had begun to worry. I'd read all the books, caught up on the TV and even started playing Candy Crush in my down time and I was...bored.

By now you should know that I thrive on a busy, full life. I like the chaos and excitement and thrill of lots of work and life overflowing into the corners of my time. I used to joke that if I got bored for too long, I would start another business (I mean, that has happened before, hasn't it long time followers?), but now I am older and wiser and know that these things come in waves.

And just like clockwork, at the precise moment I was becoming concerned about how many levels I was Crushing a day, orders picked up, a courier announced delays, I found 8kg of tomatillos to process, the bandsaw for making spoon blanks died, a whole post bag of parcels went missing, the cow got sick (she's better), the billy goat discovered he could open a gate and the pig smashed down the feed store door. Oh yeah...did I mention it is school holidays?

And just like that we were in the glorious thick of it again. Making, wrangling, solving problems and living the very full life we thrive on. And while, inevitably, I am kicking myself I didn't do more to prepare for it, I am also very proud of just how much napping I was able to fit in.
